Sri Aurobindo and His Ashram For some time past there has been a growing demand, both in India and abroad, to know more about Sri Aurobindo, the Mother, their Ashram, and their teaching. This book is an attempt, in brief compass, to meet his demand. Four of the chapters in the book were written by Sri Aurobindo himself. He wrote the biographical note to replace a life-sketch drafted by a disciple that was to be published in a book by the disciple. It later was published anonymously as Sri Aurobindo: A Life-Sketch (1937). He wrote the article “Political Life” to correct certain inauthentic reports that has come out in the press. He wrote “The Fifteen of August 1947” for broadcast on the day India achieved independence. He wrote “The Teaching of Sri Aurobindo” as part of a notice published in a newspaper in 1934, and later the same year in the booklet The Teaching and the Ashram of Sri Aurobindo. The other material in this book was written by the editors. They have based themselves on the writings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother and on other authentic sources. Wherever possible they have utilized quotations from these works.
